Qarase Issues Not Guilty Plea

Former Fiji Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase has entered a not guilty plea to the charges filed against him by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC).
Qarase is facing charges of fraud and abuse of office while he was the chairman of Fijian Holdings Limited between 1992 and 1995.
He appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar with co accused, former FHL boss, Sitiveni Weleilakeba.
Weleilakeba faces three charges of forgery and conspiracy to commit an unlawful act and uttering false documents.
Their trial will begin on the 12th of September, 2011.
Meanwhile, Qarase is also facing other charges of fraudulent conversions in a separate case which has been adjourned to the 24th of January next year.
