UN HQ should move to China: Illegal Fiji PM & You Can Move There too

FBC News - December 09, 2010

Illegal Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has lashed out at the United States of America, saying it is not holding true to its international obligations.

Bainimarama is reacting to the non-issuance of visas to three Fiji Government officials to attend UN sanctioned meetings in the US.
The Prime Minister says with the way the US has treated Fiji, it would be better if the United Nations headquarters moved to China.

“There’s a whole lot of talk about democratic countries like America, Australia and New Zealand but they keep doing this. The only place we would lobby to move the UN Headquarters to, would be China. They would not treat us like this nor would they treat any other country like the US has being treating us.”

Bainimarama says it is natural for any government to be disappointed with the actions of the US, especially if they have adhered to all international obligations.

“The Fiji Government would expect that United States of America would hold true to its international obligations of allowing participants to UN related meetings. Fiji of course takes international obligations and responsibilities genuinely.”

The Prime Minister says the issue will be taken up with the secretary general of the United Nations.
